About

Bruce and Laura Calkins with (L)to (R) Dalton, Thor, Tally and Patsy 2008.
After showing Shelties for a number of years involved in AKC Conformation, agility and Obedience I decided I wanted a dog that was a bit less grooming as I wanted to be able to still take a few to a show at a time. I still wanted to remain in the herding group so I chose the Cardigan Welsh Corgis and purchased my first show cardigan puppy from Sonja Benavidez of Doxford Kennels. A Black and white female with brindle tips. Furby was always a joy to show and finish in the breed ring. Never a dull moment with her for sure. What a clownish attitude. Furby was my demo dog then when I taught puppy and beginner obedience classes and beginner agility at the QCDOC club in Milan, IL. She enjoyed life to the fullest. Now retired and living on a sheep farm near DesMoines IA. Furby produced 2 puppies both AKC Champions: (Panda and Carrigan) from her first litter and has a 3rd offspring (singleton pup) (Solitaire-12 pts 2 majors) from her second and last litter still out showing. Solitaire produced a lovely first litter of 5 females. Four are showing…(CH) Patsy, Tally(pts), Fiona (1 mjr+pts) and Suzi Q (pts). Taira was been bred back to the same sire in the hopes of a repeat litter. That litter born in December’09 has already been promising. Watch the rings to see them…Jada, Mikey,Teddy, Pockets……
Going back then to Doxford Kennels and from the same Dam, we acquired Furby’s half sister Dorianna, a red brindle puppy. A very typey petite girl packaged nicely. Level topline and great show attitude. Deep chested. She did very well in the conformation breed show ring. Dori produced American/ Canadian Champion Tartanwyn Anya, owner shown by Cheryl Porter to both titles. Anya has then gone on to produce some lovely litters some of which are in the show ring winning now. Anya is now living in Canada.
Sky was then added to our home as a 4.5 year old with points/1 mjr. and has since been a wonderful addititon to our kennel. Thank you so much Pam Brand for entrusting her to us. She has always been a joy to show. Finished her Champion title with 3 majors and points. We did 2 breedings with Sky to the same sire and produced 2 large litters of lovely blacks and blues. The “Blue’s Brothers” have all done well. (CH) Dalton(BOB’s),(CH) Indigo, (CH) Zuli (Grp placments) and Thor(mjr pts). Sister Claire and Hope are pointed and Jasmine and Memo have been shown a few times. Several of the other pups are enjoying life as companions or working on performance titles.
These 3 girls were the start of our wonderful funfilled life with the Cardigan Corgi dogs.
Wonderful little dogs with BIG HEARTS and happy attitudes have definetly stolen a place in our hearts. Thanks to all who have supported and helped us on our journey in the Cardidom world of showing and breeding. A BIG thanks to the Davenitch Kennel and the mentoring and support from Connie Whan a true friend to the breed.
